Popular Medela Breastpumps

Medela is an amazing company that makes exceptional supplies for breastfeeding parents, such as pumps and other pumping accessories. Two of their most popularly sold items are the Freestyle Breastpump and the Pump in Style Advanced (referred to as PNSA from this point forward). Patients often are confused at the differences in the two pumps; we will sort these out here.

The Medela Freestyle is a double electric breast pump, and comes with tubing, two breast shields, four 5 oz milk storage containers, an AC adapter, a rechargeable lithium ion battery, cooler and contoured ice packs, tote bag, and hands-free accessory set. (The pump also comes with instructions, a breastfeeding information guide, and a warranty for the motor ). The Freestyle is convenient, and is a bit lighter and more compact than the PNSA. The hands-free accessory set allows for easy power pumping, or just the convenience of being able to relax and read, sew, or do anything else with your hands while you pump.

The Medela Pump in Style Advanced comes in many different forms- the Starter set (only available through insurance), Tote, Backpack, or Metro. Each package comes with the PNSA motor (which has the best reviews of all the Medela brand pump motors), tubing, two breast shields (24mm) and two 5-oz milk storage containers. The upgraded options (Tote, Backpack, or Metro) all come with extra milk storage containers, a cooler and contoured ice packs, a battery pack, and a bag (tote or backpack) to carry everything in. The Metro option includes all of these items, as well as the larger sized breast shields (so you receive the 24 and 27mm shields). The PNSA motor is a little more durable and popular with moms.
